Pay Per Click search engine marketing is a great way to drive laser targeted traffic to your website.  Do it right and you will make tons of money.  Do it wrong and you’ll end up with a skyrocketing credit card bill and a great tax write off.  If your reading this you are most likely looking to make money from your pay per click marketing efforts.

This post assumes you have already found a Hungry Market, Know Who Your Targeting and have Selected A Pay Per Click Search Engine.  If not check out my posts for those topics.

4 Keys To Pay Per Click Success:

1.  Research Your Keywords:  Good Keyword Research is the foundation of every Pay Per Click campaign. Find the right keywords and you will drive tons of traffic to your site and get a good return on your pay per click spend.

On the flip side. If you don’t do a good job of researching your keywords you will end up in a bidding war for highly competitive keywords like “Mesothelioma Lawyer” and paying $50 per click.

That’s fine if you are one of the big firms that stands to make $40,000,000 on a Mesothelioma lawsuit. HORRIBLE if you are trying to send traffic to your site selling books and research information about Mesothelioma treatment and causes. Get it?

2.  Group Your Keywords:  Once you have determined your keywords you will want to put them into manageable groups.  This will help you do two things.  First you will be able to match your ads and landing pages more closely to the actual keywords, which will increase your click thru rates and possible conversions.  Secondly this will also increase the relevance of your ads to the search engine.  Always remember that search engines reward those who have relevant ads, keyword and landing pages.  I use Keyword Elite to help me group my keywords.

3.  Write Effective Ad Copy:  Ad copy should include the keywords that the searcher typed.  Make sure it is in the title of your ad.  This will draw the searchers attention because it is exactly what they typed.

4.  Target Your Landing Pages:  What will the user see when they click thru your ad.  Will they bounce from your site or read it and become a customer?  Your landing page should match the ad that the person came from.  Avoid sending everyone to your home page if at all possible.   Think about it if you do a search for a camera and click on the ad that Circuit City is running they take you to the Camera and Camcorder section.  Exactly what you were looking for.  Follow their lead and you will be successful.
